[NEWS]Minghsin and the OCAC Went to Philippines to Hold a Forum, Attracting Excellent Overseas Chinese Students to Come to Taiwan for Further Studies

Minghsin University of Science and Technology (MUST) held a series of student recruitment events after establishing the "Philippines High-Tech Talent Training Base(菲律賓高科技人才培訓基地)" in cooperation with the Overseas Community Affairs Council (僑務委員會, OCAC) at the end of last year. Recently, President Liu Kuo-Wei(劉國偉) led Vice President Liao Hsin-Te(廖德), Associate Dean Neo Chang(張乃元) of the Office of International Foundation Program(國際專修部), and related department’s heads to visit the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines(駐菲律賓臺北經濟文化辦事處), and held a forum with OCAC’s representatives to attract excellent overseas Chinese students in Philippines to study in Taiwan.

 

On March 13, the "One Country, One School, One Base Cooperation Plan Forum in the Philippines" was held in Manila, hosted by Ambassador Xu Peiyong(徐佩勇) of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, Director Wang Yingyang(王映陽) of the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines(菲華文教服務中心), and President Liu Kuo-Wei. Nearly 50 leaders of overseas Chinese associations, overseas Chinese schools, and related personnel attended the event.

 

Ambassador Xu Peiyong pointed out that the Philippines is a country worth developing and cultivating. Filipinos have a language advantage and are diligent in their work. He also thanked all attendees for sharing the OCAC's plan and encouraging overseas Chinese students in Philippines to come to Taiwan for further studies, and looked forward to closer Taiwan-Philippine relations.

 

At the forum, President Liu Kuo-Wei introduced the history, geographical location, and advantages of MUST to the attendees. He mentioned that MUST currently has more than 200 Filipino students, and collaborates with Taiwanese semiconductor factories and Philippine universities to establish industry-academia cooperation. He also explained that the university has established two talent cultivation bases in the fields of semiconductors and smart manufacturing and has set up international student programs, making it be an important partner for Taiwanese businesses to cultivate overseas talents.

 

Associate Dean Neo Chang of the Office of International Foundation Program explained in detail the "Philippines High-Tech Talent Training Base" and the "Overseas Youth Vocational Training Program(OYVTP) 4-Year Bachelor Degree(4年制「產學合作學士海外青年技術訓練班)" and the "Overseas Youth Vocational Training Program(OYVTP) 2-Year Associate Degree Class(2年制「副學士海外青年技術訓練班」)." He provided information on program costs, various scholarships, admission requirements, and the expansion of scholarships for overseas Chinese students. At the end of the forum, President Liu, Associate Dean Chang, and various department’s heads answered all the questions raised by attendees.

 

Aligning with the government's New Southbound Policy, through interdisciplinary cooperation among the OCAC and industry, government, and academia, MUST will deepen its presence in the Philippines and provide high-quality technical and vocational education to expand recruitment of overseas Chinese students to study in Taiwan.(Photo and text provided by the Office of International Foundation Program, OCAC)
