12th MATA Awards: Tunaw! Go all out! Rules for the 114th College and Senior High School Student Aboriginal Theme Audiovisual and Filming Project Competition

1. In order to promote indigenous education and deepen students’ understanding, respect and recognition of indigenous history and culture, the Department organizes the MATA Award Competition. This year’s competition continues to encourage students to use visual narratives to present their exploration and concern for indigenous history, culture, language, and life stories.
2. The key points of the "College and University Audiovisual Competition" listed in the competition rules are as follows:
(i) Title of the entry: To be determined by the entrants, but the content must cover topics related to Aboriginal languages, history and culture, life, education, urban Aboriginals or Aboriginal transitional justice.
(ii) Categories: There are three categories: “Non-documentary” (including feature films and news features), “Documentary”, and “Animation”. The length of non-documentary films must be 10 to 25 minutes, the length of documentary films must be 15 to 30 minutes, and the length of animation films must be 3 to 5 minutes.
(3) Eligibility: Anyone with a student status in a domestic college or university, regardless of major, department, or institute, can participate.
(IV) Prize money: The total prize money is NT$660,000 (the same below), of which 3 first prize winners will receive a prize of NT$100,000 each.
(V) Application deadline: From April 1, 2015 to September 15, 2015, all applications must be submitted online (website: https://forms.gle/gJMdMg79k69pd35m 7).
3. All schools are requested to integrate resources and promote counseling for indigenous students and universal indigenous education. All schools are requested to have their indigenous student resource centers continue to assist and encourage indigenous students to participate in the MATA Award competition and provide relevant suggestions on indigenous topics to participating students as needed, so as to jointly promote students’ understanding and respect for issues related to indigenous history and culture.
4. In order to provide a platform for students to demonstrate their care and actions for the inheritance of indigenous culture, the department plans to hold the MATA Award Northern District Film Festival in the Bopiliao Historic District of Wanhua District, Taipei City from March 16 to March 30, 2015.
