Indigenous Students Resource Center

Brief Introduction of ISRC

MingHsin University of Science and Technology (MUST), in accordance with Educational Law of Indigenous Peoples. (Art. 18), has applied to the Ministry of Education for establishing “Indigenous Students Resources Center”( ISRC) With the official ratification of the Ministry of Education on February the 1st, 2018, our school has within one year, shown its firm intention and made great efforts to prepare multiple schemes for engaging students’ diverse learning fields. While the opening ceremony of ISRC was held on April 17, 2019, distinguished guests and representatives from various places, including the Ministry of Education,Legislative Yuan, Hsin-Ju  County Government, local councils as well as many indigenous cultural and educational workers end tribal fellows...etc,they all witnessed how extraordinary contribution our school has made, and how successful milestone has marked for indigenous students.

The Indigenous Student Resource Center (ISRC) has been incorporated into the university’s Key Strategic Development Plan for Institutional Affairs. Through long-term planning and execution strategies, the ISRC not only fulfills its core responsibilities but also integrates and secures resources both within and beyond the university. It strengthens academic expertise and technical training across various colleges and departments.

By leveraging the ISRC’s capacity to consolidate resources and develop diverse Indigenous cultural education programs, the center introduces both internal and external Indigenous cultural educators into the curriculum. This initiative allows students to acquire not only professional skills and academic knowledge in their respective fields but also a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s Indigenous cultures, histories, languages, arts, industries, economy, and legal systems.

The ISRC is committed to preserving, promoting, and passing down Indigenous cultural heritage. It nurtures outstanding Indigenous talents and future leaders, fostering a strong sense of ethnic identity and rekindling students’ sense of mission. Ultimately, the center serves as a foundation for cultivating talent essential to the future development and sustainability of Indigenous communities.

Currently, in the 113th academic year, our university has approximately 269 enrolled Aboriginal students. To enhance and expand higher education opportunities for Aboriginal people in Hsinchu County, our university incorporated the establishment of a Special Aboriginal Program into its overall development strategy. This initiative was actively promoted during the university affairs meeting in May 2019, with dedicated efforts from the Office of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, the College of Engineering, the College of Services, various departments, and the Indigenous Student Resource Center (ISRC).

Since the 109th academic year, our university has successfully launched the Special Aboriginal Program, aligning with the "109 Academic Year Project to Increase Admission Quotas for Aboriginal Students in Higher Education Institutions". This initiative facilitated the inclusion of specialized disciplines such as the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education, the Department of Senior Service Industry Management, and the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Resource Management. In 2022, we further established the Aboriginal MBA Program, which operates as an independent recruitment program to encourage higher education enrollment among Aboriginal students. To this day, the program continues to admit students in the 113th academic year, ensuring a comprehensive and well-structured talent cultivation system for Aboriginal people.

Our university serves as the optimal learning environment for Aboriginal students pursuing higher education in the Greater Hsinchu region. Building upon the foundation of the 12-year national education system, we have extended our commitment to Aboriginal education through the Aboriginal Experimental Class, progressing into a four-year technical and vocational higher education pathway. As a key institution nurturing Aboriginal talent in the Greater Hsinchu area, the ISRC has proactively collaborated with four academic departments to provide comprehensive academic support, life counseling, and career development services. By integrating professional faculty and university resources, we have developed a forward-looking educational strategy that ensures both the breadth and depth of Aboriginal education. This initiative aligns with the vision and aspirations of the Aboriginal Education Act, striving to make Aboriginal education a reality.

We have confidence. We will succeed.
