※Brief Introduction

 

To enhance our overall competitive advantage, internationalization of education has long been an important strategy for Ming-Hsin University of Science and Technology (MUST). Since the initiation of our campus internationalization efforts and the enactment of the government's higher education export policy, we have been dedicated to recruiting international students, strengthening academic exchanges, and developing new teaching methods. Significant progress has been made over the years.

   To cope with the increasing numbers of foreign students and demonstrate our commitment to campus internationalization, MUST established the International and Cross-Strait Affairs Promotion Committee in 2014, followed by the founding of our International and Cross-Strait Operations Division in 2016. The International and Cross-Strait Operations Division consolidates three centers that were originally part of different departments: The International Education and Exchange Center, the Cross-Strait Education and Exchange Center, and the Foreign Students' Counseling and Service Center. This integration synergizes the strengths of different sectors, enhances our administrative efficiency, and significantly improves our internationalization competitiveness.    

    The "Center of Chinese Language Teaching" was established in 2018. The "New Resident Education Development Center" was newly established in September 2020. In 2020, the "International Education and Exchange Center" and the "Cross-Strait Education and Exchange Center" were merged into the "International and Cross-Strait Education Center". In 2021, the former "Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs" was renamed as the "Office of International Affairs", which comprises the "International and Cross-Strait Education Center," the "Admission Service Center," and the "New Southbound and New Resident Center." In 2022, the "Admission Service Center" was further renamed as the "International Admissions Center."

    The number of international students admitted at MUST has been steadily increasing since 2008. To demonstrate our commitment to campus internationalization, we invited the Ministry of Education (MOE) to conduct site visits at our school in both 2013 and 2014. According to MOE's evaluation assessment results in 2016, we made significant progress in the quality of internationalization. Then, in 2017, we initiated the Industry-Academia Collaboration Program for International Students under the guidance of MOE. From 2018 to 2021, the number of foreign degree students in colleges and universities ranked first in the country for consecutive years.     

     Currently, on campus, we have about 1,300 international students from 16 countries, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Ukraine, Singapore, India, Haiti, Russia, Nicaragua, Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China.

International and Cross-Strait Education Center

 

 The International and Cross-Strait Education Center provides several important services, such as seeking alliances with overseas colleges, promoting intercollegiate exchanges, conducting student exchange programs, organizing overseas summer/winter camps, offering overseas education consultation services, and arranging international education and exchange programs. By leveraging our geographical advantages and administrative features, an international education and exchange program generated from industry-academic collaboration can be fully developed.    

 

The main work includes:

1. Integrating overseas operations to enhance administrative efficiency and develop the university's competitive advantage in internationalization.

2.  Establishing strong roots for overseas education and gaining international recognition.

3. Creating opportunities for students to study abroad and broaden their international horizons.

4. Promoting multinational industry collaboration and sharing research and development outcomes.

5. Promoting student exchange programs to encourage international exchanges.

6. Facilitating the exchange of excellent teachers for overseas study and strengthening international collaborations.

 

International Admissions Center

 

The Center is responsible for handling the admissions process for international students. Its main purpose is to assist and support prospective international students throughout the application process, providing information about admission requirements, procedures, and deadlines.

 

Main work includes:

Application processing: We receive and process international student applications, ensuring that all required documents are submitted and within the specified deadlines. We review application materials, such as academic transcripts, standardized test scores, recommendation letters, and study plan essays, to determine eligibility for admission.

 

Communication and support:

We serve as the primary point of contact for international applicants, addressing any questions or concerns and providing support throughout the application process. We are available for communication through email, phone, or Line group online chat to guide students through various stages of admission.

 

Scholarship information:

We provide detailed information about the scholarships available to international students. This includes the eligibility criteria, application deadlines, required documents, and selection process. We ensure that prospective students are aware of the scholarship opportunities and guide them through the

 

appropriate steps to apply.

The International Admissions Center serves as the service window for international admissions at this school.

 

New Southbound and New Resident Center

 

To expand educational services for new residents and their children and fulfill the social responsibility of the university, we aim to provide innovative educational service consultations for Taiwan's new residents and their children. Our objective is to empower individuals to recognize and enhance their self-worth, promote diverse values, strengthen employment-focused talent training, assist in disseminating government education policies and subsidies, foster ethnic integration and respect, and collectively build a pluralistic society.

 

The work of the center is as follows:

1. Assist the recruitment of new residents and their children (including domestic students, overseas students, special class students, and promoting education enrollment).

2. Provide counseling for new residents and their children on educational matters, research multiple channels for further education, and address related issues.

3. Train new residents and their children as seed teachers, and promote the language and culture of their home country.

4. Establish links with skills training courses for new residents and their children to expand employment opportunities.

5. Manage the promotion and publicity activities related to multicultural concepts, talent training, and learning courses, serving as a basis for industry matching.

6. Foster innovative services and participate in revitalizing industries and community development services.

7. Handle talent training cooperation and fundraising for Taiwanese business associations (branches) in relevant countries.

8. Manage capacity-building programs for new residents and their children, along with other related initiatives for the development of new residents' education.

9. Establish the "Taiwan New Resident Education Development Association" to promote education and training for new residents.

10. Engage in other related new resident education development activities.
